What is a Sangjit gown, and how is it different from a wedding dress?

Sangjit is the Chinese betrothal ceremony held before the wedding day, when the groom’s family presents gifts to the bride’s family. The bride traditionally wears red or another auspicious colour rather than white.

At 23 Wedding Luxe, our Sangjit gowns are couture pieces in their own right, with cheongsam-inspired silhouettes, hand-embroidered floral motifs and contemporary draping in red, gold, burgundy and champagne. We hold the Malaysia Book of Records title for the Most Sangjit Collection, with 57 designs.

Gown rental at 23 Wedding Luxe starts from RM2,800, depending on the design, fabric and level of hand embellishment. Custom-made pieces are quoted individually based on fabric, embroidery and construction time. How far in advance should I book my bridal appointment?

For gown rental we recommend booking 3 to 6 months before your wedding date, which allows time for fittings and adjustments. For custom-made gowns, allow 4 to 6 months from first measurement to completion. Peak wedding season books out earlier, so if your date falls in a busy month it is worth enquiring sooner.

How long does a custom-made wedding gown take?

A custom-made gown takes 4 to 6 months. The process begins with a consultation to understand your ceremony, venue and personal style, followed by pattern development, hand sewing, embroidery and multiple fittings. Every design is developed under our WeiLi Couture line, with proportions studied specifically to flatter Asian brides while keeping an international couture aesthetic.

Where is 23 Wedding Luxe located?

Our atelier is at D47-G, Pusat Komersial Arena Bintang, Jalan Zuhal U5/178, Seksyen U5, 40150 Shah Alam, Selangor, beside Subang Airport and roughly 30 minutes from central Kuala Lumpur. Can gowns be altered to fit me?

Yes. All rental gowns include basic alterations, and our in-house team handles fitting adjustments. Our collections are made in a range of sizes, and we design with Asian bridal proportions in mind.

Which venues and publications have you worked with?

We have staged runway shows and dressed brides at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, W Kuala Lumpur, Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur and Sentul Pavilion. We are also a bridal partner for W Kuala Lumpur’s wedding packages. Our work has been featured in Buro Malaysia, The Wedding Notebook, Next Trend Magazine and Sin Chew Daily.

I live outside the Klang Valley or overseas. Can you still help?

Yes. We work with brides from Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and further afield. For brides travelling in, we consolidate the process into around two to three visits — usually one for selection and measurement, one for fitting, and collection close to your date. Send us your wedding date and where you are travelling from, and we will plan a schedule around your trips.

What happens at a bridal appointment?

Appointments are private and by reservation only, and usually run 1.5 to 2 hours. You will be guided through the collections, try on gowns suited to your ceremony and venue, and discuss rental or custom options. A booking deposit is required to secure your appointment, and it is offset against your rental if you proceed. We recommend bringing one or two guests so the fitting room stays comfortable and the focus stays on you.

I am based in Singapore. How does it work?

Firefly flies direct from Seletar Airport (XSP) in Singapore to Subang Airport (SZB) in about 1 hour 20 minutes, with up to eight departures a day, and our atelier is roughly ten minutes from the Subang arrival hall. A full appointment fits into a single day trip. Most Singapore brides complete the process in two to three visits: selection and measurement, fitting, then collection close to the wedding date.
